How much will a video retainer cost you in the UK?
The answer to this depends on a 2 key variables; Output and Complexity.
1) Output – how many videos do you want?
The output refers to the number of videos you are looking to receive. This could be split into individual videos, or perhaps it’s the same video with multiple formats for different platforms.
Output also includes the length of the videos. Are we talking a plethora of 10 second videos, or more like half a dozen mini documentaries? All of this will affect the price of your retainer.
2) Complexity – how fancy do you want the shoot and edit to be?
Complexity refers to, you guessed it, how complex the shoot and edit of the films is going to be. As an example, a 4D animation takes a lot of time and labour to produce something even as short as 10 seconds. But a ‘talking head’ video blog could be 4 minutes long, and take a fraction of the time to edit and release.
Complexity can also refer to the actual filming – a well-polished advert will need more lighting, sound and better cameras than a quick video case study will. There’s also the complexity of the shoot itself; is it on a remote island in the Pacific, or is it in an office in Swindon with parking outside?
The more information you can have about your vision, and the output and complexity of your videos, the easier it is to gain an accurate price. As you can imagine, the range on both of those variables is so wide that most video production companies don’t like to provide set rates for video retainers.
Thankfully, we understand that having guide prices is extremely valuable to marketers, so in this blog we’ll explore the pricing of video retainers, what you can expect to pay and approximately what you can expect to get out of it.
Monthly video retainer costs
Our video retainers are always priced on a monthly basis. All of our retainers can be created bespoke for you, so the actual price can be tweaked to suit your budget, but here are 3 of our most popular price ranges:
- £800 plus VAT a month
- £1500 plus VAT a month
- £2500 plus VAT a month
What does that actually get me?
Nailing down exactly what you’ll get at each price point is difficult, because of the aforementioned variables – the contents of your video retainer is tailored to your needs.
But as business owners and marketers, we know that’s not a helpful answer! So here’s an example package:
£800 per month could get you:
- 2 case study films
- 6 video blogs
- A process video
- and 10 social media snippets
= a total of 19 films!
This brings the cost per film down to just £505 – which is far more cost-effective than having each film made individually.
How do I know which package is right for me?
We base all of our retainer packages around the goals and objectives of your business, and of course your budget restraints.
If you’re looking for aggressive growth, then we’ll need a more comprehensive and consistent video strategy to match.
If you’re looking to just test the water, then we can scale down as appropriate.
When it comes to picking the right package for you, our job is to give maximum value, to produce maximum results, at a price point that works for both of us. That’s fair right?
We also offer proof-of-concept packages before you dive into a long term commitment. Why? Because you have to know whether or not you like our work, process and team. It’s also for us to see if the relationship will be a beneficial one. We know that a strong relationship with healthy communication is the only way to achieve true success. A proof-of-concept approach is a great way of figuring that out before either of us commit too heavily.
I want to know more, but I don’t want to commit to buying right now…
Sure thing. Get in touch using our booking link, and we can have a brief discussion and give you a ballpark estimate.
If it’s reasonable and you like our approach, we can put together a formal proposal document. Only then will you need to make a decision on whether or not you work with us, or a competitor. Easy!
