We were pumped to get back to international shoots after a long hiatus due to the pandemic, and last week we jetted off to Amsterdam to shoot in the uber-cool Student Hotel for Glide!
Glide wanted a film that felt authentic and focussed on the brand as much as possible, without feeling salesy. Our brief was to capture real stories from students living in The Student Hotel, as they shared their experience of using Glide’s internet service. We wanted to focus on the students, rather than the product, to really bring the brand to life and show the end result of the service.
We were on location in Amsterdam for a full week (including plenty of testing and COVID vaccines!). Travelling with a film crew doesn’t mean packing light, so we had to take a specialised streamlined kit to make travelling as efficient as possible.
With only a single light panel in our kit, we had to leverage natural light wherever possible, making sure to shoot in well-lit spots and make the most of daylight hours.
Our team used a mixture of handheld and shoulder mount shots to give the footage an edgy feel, which fit with our student audience. We also brought in a gimbal to give us to those smooth walking shots, allowing you to really experience the hotel and the immerse yourself in the life of the student.
As the lovely students we interviewed were totally new to us, we had to use our producing skills to navigate interviews to get the best quotes and bring out the hooks in their stories.
We had so much fun filming in Amsterdam – what a city!
