How much does a corporate video cost?

19 Dec 2022 Cost of Video

As a professional video production agency, we often get asked how much it really costs to make a corporate video.

When you’re putting together your annual marketing budget, we understand how useful it is to know how much a good video costs, and how much to budget. While there’s no single answer (as each video and brief is different) we can give you a rough idea of what to expect from an agency when you’re looking for a professional marketing video.

Firstly, it’s helpful to know why the cost of making a video can vary so widely…

What influences the cost of video

There are several factors that can influence how much your video project will cost:

How complex is your project

The fancier you want to go, the more it’s going to cost. This includes how many angles, crew members and specialised pieces of kit your project will require, as well as things like multiple locations, challenging terrain or overnight stays. Editing time is also important to factor in, too – much of the magic of a finished video is made in the edit suite, and the difference between a rushed half day or a longer edit period will show in your video.

Generally speaking, the simpler the shoot, the cheaper it will be.

How long will your video be

The duration of the video can (although not always) play a part in cost. Usually, shorter videos are cheaper, since a longer video requires more planning, more production and more editing time. However, a short but complex shoot can cost the same as a longer but simpler one, as explained above.

How many videos do you want

The more videos you want, the more it will cost. However, this is usually a great way to increase your ROI – thanks to the economy of scale and some clever planning, you’ll get more videos at a cheaper cost per video.

Who’s making your video

The level of skill within your video production team, as well as the equipment they use, will also impact the final cost. If you’re paying a graduate to shoot a video on an iPhone, it’ll cost significantly less than a full crew shooting in 4K with the latest cameras – and you’ll no doubt see the difference in your finished project.

Like most projects, you can spend a little or a lot. The important thing is getting the most out of your budget, and ensuring that you’re delighted with the end result; ideally, a film that shows you a solid ROI through real, measurable results.

With the explanation out of the way, let’s take a look at the numbers…

How much to budget for video

When it comes to budgeting for video, a typical agency can charge anything up to £50,000 for a marketing video. This wide range is great, because it means that video is accessible to all budgets – though it does make giving an accurate cost harder without knowing a little more about your project.

Typically, most of our clients spend around £3,000 – £5,000 plus VAT for a standalone video project.

However, we also offer retainer packages for businesses looking to really maximise the benefits of video marketing. This means that each video can work out at as little as £300 – £500, and allows you benefit from consistent video creation throughout the year at a predictable cost. Our retainer packages start from £1,000 plus VAT a month.
